Get ready to spring into action

New Ulm Park and Recreation Department preparing for upcoming activities

Swimming is available for those of all ages at the New Ulm Park and Recreation Center, both for youth and adults.

The New Ulm Park and Recreation Department is gearing up toward its Spring/Summer events for children and adults of all ages.

Because the Winter season is still in session, there will be many activities going on now that will continue to go on over the next month or so.

One of the bigger events held by the Park and Rec. Department includes the Spring Garage Sale at the New Ulm Civic Center, which will be held on Saturday, April 1 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Swim lessons will continue at the Rec Center and the last session for spring will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights from April 19-May 12.

the annual Easter Egg Hunt, put on by the New Ulm Park and Recreation Department, is a popular event with young children every year.

The Park and Rec Department will also partner with Early Childhood Family Education (E.C.F.E) on Saturday, April 23 from the Family Fair.

Those who enjoy spending time at the city parks will be able to on May 1 when the parks are officially open for the season. There will also be an Arbor Day Celebration at the end of April to include proclamation by the Mayor and tree planting.

Easter events will also be added to the schedule this year.

They include events for kids at the park and also the pool at the Rec Center April 15 and 16. Also, the Hermann Monument will be open Saturdays and Sundays in the middle of May and it will open daily beginning in June.

The Recreation Center offers open gym, open swim, racquetball, wallyball, pickelball and indoor playground both for members and daily admission. The indoor playground is designed for those 12 years and under and requires a parent to supervise and the playground will be available during the hours the building is open.

the New Ulm Park and Recreation Department holds an annual Arbor Day event to plant trees in the city parks.

Pickelball will also be available for those interested from Monday through Saturday, but those wanting to participated need to bring their own equipment as the Rec Center will not be providing or renting equipment.

Open swim, another popular activity, will be offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mondays and Wednesdays are a good day to bring younger children as the zero-depth, rec pool and slides are the only spaces available.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday the full pool is available for open swim, including the climbing wall, zip’n and Ninja Cross.

There will also be more than 30 fitness classes offered per week at the Rec Center that are also open for members and drop in. Yoga, spin class, step and aqua classes are just some of the available options.
