At New Ulm: Cow goes for $16,500
Ardean Lucifer Lad Penny
What may have been the largest amount of money ever paid for a cow in Minnesota was exchanged in New Ulm Tuesday.
The $16,500 paid for Ardean Lucifer Lad Penny, a 5-year-old Holstein, was the highest price ever paid in the state according to Greg Baure, a representative of the David Bachmann Co., which was in charge of the sale.
The sale came during the Minnesota Fall State Sale of Holstein cattle sponsored by the Minnesota Holstein Breeders Association.
The cow, owned by Melvin and Larry Hackett of Rice, had placed third in a national cattle show this summer. It was purchased by a syndicate of nine individuals.
In all, about 90 cattle were sold for a total price of $129,000 at the Brown County Fairgrounds.
