Legacy giving: One way to pay it forward

Legacy giving, such as gifts left in a will, can help NUMC serve the community for years to come.

Would you like to help ensure that our community can benefit from the care and service provided by New Ulm Medical Center far into the future?

“The availability of excellent health care locally is important to all of us, and one of the best ways to ensure our future is through legacy giving,” said Melissa Dreckman, director of the New Ulm Medical Center Foundation.

A legacy gift is a donation that is given through a will or other form of beneficiary designation.

Anyone can make a legacy gift, regardless of age, income or assets. “It’s a smart way to make meaningful gifts to organizations you care about,” said Dreckman. “Legacy giving can offer financial opportunities for you or your beneficiaries, depending on your circumstances and the type of gift. This can include reduced income taxes and capital gains taxes and other benefits.”

Here are some of the most commons ways to leave a legacy gift:

Leave a gift in your will

Designate a charitable organization as a beneficiary of your retirement fund [(e.g. IRA, 401(k), 403(b)] or your life insurance policy

Make an outright gift of life insurance cash value from a policy that is no longer needed.

Your financial advisor or attorney can guide you in choosing one of these or other strategies to leave a legacy gift.
