Guilty pleas in crash that killed toddler, 2 others
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man accused in a wrong-way crash that killed three people has pleaded guilty to charges in Hennepin County District Court.
Patrick Hayes entered the pleas Monday to criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation just as a jury was about to be selected for his trial. The Savage man admitted in court that there had been a change in his epilepsy medication and that he shouldn’t have been driving the night of the crash in December 2016.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Hayes had a seizure before driving the wrong way on Interstate 494 in Bloomington and crashing head-on another vehicle. Two-year-old Payton Bailey died about a week after the crash. His mother, Dylan Bailey and grandmother, Dawn Chiodo, died the night of the crash.
