Prep roundup: MVL boys finish 2nd at Kwik Trip tournament

Boys’ basketball

Fairmont 56, MVL 53

MANKATO — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys’ basketball team came up just short against Fairmont in Saturday’s championship game at the Kwik Trip Holiday Tournament at Bethany Lutheran College, falling 56-53.

MVL (10-1) was led by Jake Kettner, who had 13 points, while Dunwa Omot added 12 points and Kyreis Harrison had 11 points and eight boards.

Kettner, Omot and Mason Cox were named to the All-Tournament team.

MVL is at New Ulm Cathedral on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.

Cedar Mountain 79,

KMS 64

WINDOM — The Cedar Mountain boys’ basketball team rolled to a 79-64 win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Saturday in tournament action at Windom.

Tavi Nelson led the Cougars with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Trey Peterson-Juhl had 15 points. Lewis Pendleton and Andre Larsen added 14 points each for the Cougars, while Justin Lumbar had 7 points and 14 rebounds.

Cedar Mountain hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday.

Late Friday

Cleveland 62, BLHS 44

NICOLLET — Cleveland took down Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 62-44 on Friday afternoon in boys’ basketball action at the Nicollet Holiday Invitational.

Nathan Schultz led BLHS with 11 points and six rebounds, while Elijah Stifter added 10 points and four assists.

Girls’ basketball

Windom 80,

Cedar Mountain 49

WINDOM — Windom topped Cedar Mountain 80-49 in girls’ basketball tournament action on Saturday at Windom.

The Cougars were led by Trista Smith with 20 points and Kalli Kadet with 16 points, while Madison Heiling added 12 rebounds.

Cedar Mountain (2-7) is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday.

Late Friday

LeSueur-Henderson 60, Madelia 33

ST. JAMES — LeSueur-Henderson topped Madelia 60-33 in girls’ basketball action at the St. James Invitational on Friday.

Emily Stevensen and CaleyAnn Clobes added 7 points each for Madelia, while Alayna DeLaCruz and Sylvia Rodriguez had 6 points apiece.

Madelia (2-9) hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Friday night.
