Prep roundup: Springfield’s Hauger hits 1,000 career points, MVL girls crush CM

Springfield 59, BLHS 46

HECTOR — Springfield’s Sydney Hauger became the second girls’ basketball player in the Tomahawk Conference to surpass 1,000 career points on the season when she scored 31 points in a win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

Hauger needed 24 points going into the game and hit the milestone with about nine minutes left in the second half. The junior guard also had 11 steals.

Sarah Kottke led BLHS with 28 points. The Tigers (2-0) host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

MVL 74, Cedar Mountain 15

MORGAN — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Cedar Mountain 74-15 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Lexi Fischer had 18 points and 11 rebounds for MVL. Abby Riederer had 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals, Maddie Pearson had 13 points and Kaylee Hunter has 10 points and four assists.

Cedar Mountain was led by Kailee Larson and Trisha Smith, who both scored 5 points.

MVL (2-1) plays at 8 p.m. on Thursday at Martin Luther College against St. Croix Lutheran Academy.

Boys’ basketball

MCC 79, Sleepy Eye 69

SLEEPY EYE — Murray County Central defeated Sleepy Eye 79-69 on Friday in boys’ basketball action at the Sleepy Eye Invite.

Nathan Walter led Sleepy Eye, scoring 24 points. Kegan Heiderscheidt scored 16 points, Jose Ibarra scored 14 points and Jacob Berg scored 11 points.

Sleepy Eye (0-1) resumes action in the invitational on Saturday.

TMB 63, St. Mary’s 56

SLEEPY EYE – Tracy-Milroy-Balaton defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 63-56 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Nick Labat had 18 points and eight rebounds for St. Mary’s. Carson Domeier had 12 points and Jacob Lux had 10 points and five rebounds.

St. Mary’s plays at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday at Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain.

Madelia 67,

Hope Academy 52

GRANADA — Ja’Sean Glover led Madelia with 20 points as the Jayhawks opened the boys’ basketball season with a win on Friday night.

Ramiro Zamora had 14 points and Kaden Benzel finished with 11 points for Madelia (1-0).

Madelia led 38-33 at halftime and will travel to Heron Lake-Okabena on Tuesday.

Nicollet 69,

Sibley East 62

GAYLORD – Nicollet defeated Sibley East 69-62 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Riley Hulke had 30 points and 10 assists for Nicollet. Josh Chadderdon scored 12 points.

Kameron In led Sibley East with 27 points and Lucas Dose scored 13 points.

Nicollet (1-0) hosts St. James Area at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

NY-Mills 63,

Wabasso 45

WABASSO — Wabasso lost in the opening game of the Wabasso Invite on Friday to New York Mills.

Isaac Kronback led the Rabbits with 14 points. Brock Rohlik had 10 points and 14 rebounds. Wabasso plays Day 2 of the Invite on Saturday.
