Bethel runs past MLC women

ST. PETER, Minn. — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team lost to Bethel University 99-34 on Friday on day one of a two-day tournament hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Royals took control of the game from the start, opening a 20-4 lead after the first quarter and building it from there on the way to the win.

The Knights struggled offensively with 32 turnovers while shooting 22.4 percent from the field while the Royals finished the game shooting 56.7 percent.

Sydney Cody led the Knights in her first game of the season with 10 points on 4-11 shooting overall while making two of her four attempts from beyond the three-point arc. Faith Otte added eight points, while Ruth Buchholz grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

MLC fell to 0-2 on the season in defeat. Bethel improved to 1-0 with the win.

The Knights will return to action against host Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday.
