MLC soccer roundup: MLC men blanked in nonconference soccer

ST. PETER — The Martin Luther College men’s soccer team was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 4-0 loss at Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday.

The Gusties took control early with goals in the fifth and ninth minutes, respectively, and added a third goal in the 32nd minute to take a 3-0 edge into halftime.

The Knights battled to build momentum in the second half, but a Gusties’ goal in the 59th minute ended the scoring on the way to the four-goal margin.

The Knights were credited with seven shots in the game, three of which came from Joe Graumann. Gabriel Plocher stopped nine of the 13 shots he faced in goal for the Knights in the game.

MLC fell to 0-3 on the season in defeat.

Women’s soccer

UW-River Falls 9, MLC 0

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Martin Luther College women’s soccer team (0-2) struggled in a 9-0 defeat at UW-River Falls on Wednesday.

The Falcons broke a scoreless tie in the 24th minute on a goal by Camryn Altnau, and then added three more tallies before the end of the first half to build a 4-0 halftime lead.

UWRF added a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes after the break, and finished the game with three more insurance goals to get the final margin.

The Falcons were credited with 35 shots in the game, 25 of which were on goal. Mollie Fischer made 10 stops in goal in the first half, while Maria Tomassetti stopped six of the 11 shots she faced in the second half.
