New Ulm U17 girls take home Silver Bracket title

BLAINE — The New Ulm U17 girls played six games in the Schwan’s Cup in Blaine this past weekend and won the Silver Bracket.

The first game New Ulm played was against Hudson, WI, where New Ulm won 5-0. The second game New Ulm played was against Maple Brook, MN, where they lost 2-0. In New Ulm’s third game, the team picked up a 4-2 win over Minneapolis United.

In the quarterfinal game, New Ulm defeated the Euro Futbol Club out of Rochester, MN by a score of 3-1. In the semifinals, New Ulm defeated the North Metro Soccer Club 4-3.

New Ulm then went on to meet Maple Brook again, this time in the championship game, and won 3-0.

The Schwan’s Cup is hosted in Blaine, MN annually. It is the fourth largest soccer tournament in the United States. This year there were 1,150 teams that came to play. The roster of teams included 20 different countries, 20 different states and four Canadian provinces (information provided from www.usacup.org/starthere).
