BOLD knocks out St. Mary’s

ST. PETER — BOLD defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 79-42 in the Section 2A playoff action Friday night. The loss ends Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s season at 19-8.

BOLD (22-5) held St. Mary’s to 13 points in the first half while scoring 43 points to put the Knights in a deficit that became too much to overcome. The Knights also went 1-for-8 from the free throw line.

At the 13:41 mark, in the first half, BOLD led St. Mary’s 14-5 and kept them at the 5 spot for the following eight minutes against a struggling Knights team.

St. Mary’s Madison Mathiowetz and Cassie Heinrichs hit from 3-point land in the first half.

The Warriors’ Makayla Snow netted 14 points in the first half as she was able to drive the lane and hit field goals from down low.

St. Mary’s was able to generate offense right away in the second half but the deficit was too great after halftime.

Heinrichs scored 13 points to lead the Knights with Mathiowetz hitting 11 points with six rebounds.

BOLD’s Snow led with 18 points with five rebounds, Makenna Steffel had 16 points with nine rebounds and seven steals.

The BOLD Warriors will play the Sleepy Eye Indians at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter for the Section 2A, North Subsection championship game.
