NEW ULM — Kirk Coppock recorded a hat trick and Tom Reilly scored two goals as the New Ulm Steel fired 59 shots on two Rochester goalies in a 10-0 win over the IceHawks Saturday night in a NA3HL game at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Brandon Mehlhop, Nick Wieben, Jimmy Miller, Ryan Smith and Mason Trowbridge each added a goal.

Stephen Mordini had three assists with Trevor Woytcke adding two helpers. Jarrett Cammarata, Hunter Johnson, Oliver Hoeschen, Austin Langworthy, Bayler Kraus, Sam Storlie, Zach Heiser and Alec Moser each had an assist.

Steel goalie Ryan Kenny stopped all 17 Rochester shots.

“I think that everybody had a point for us tonight,” Steel coach Andrew Kolb said. “Everyone played a good hockey game.”

New Ulm started the onslaught in the first period with four goals. Coppock made it 1-0 at 4:22. That score was quickly followed by goals from Smith, Trowbridge and Wieben. The Steel’s first three scores came in a span of just over three minutes.

Goals from Reilly and Miller 33 seconds apart in the second period made it 6-0.

Johnson and Mehlhop upped the lead to 8-0 after the second period.

“Our message tonight was to play offense,” Kolb said. “I did not want to spend a lot of time in our defensive zone.”

And the Steel did not do that as Coppock got his hat trick at 7:58 of the third period for a 9-0 lead before Reilly got New Ulm in double figures at the 12:15 mark.
