St. Mary’s continues hot streak with win; Nicollet boys edge Madelia

St. Mary’s 74, GHEC/T/ML 37

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s downed Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Friday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Sydney Windschitl led the Knights with 18 points and seven steals. Madison Mathiowetz added 17 points and nine rebounds. Mallory Helget scored 12 points, had five rebounds and three steals. Cassie Heinrichs added 12 points and four steals.

St. Mary’s (11-1, 4-1) will play at Sleepy Eye (9-3, 4-1) on Tuesday.

GFW 58, Wabasso 48

WABASSO — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed Wabasso 58-48 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Madison Guetter had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Wabasso. Lindsey Bernardy added 11 points and Gina Goblirsch scored 10 points.

Wabasso (6-3, 4-2) will travel to Red Rock Central (7-3, 4-1) on Saturday. GFW (9-2, 6-0) will play at Sibley East on Tuesday.

Springfield 67, BLHS 48

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Sydney Hauger led all scorers for Springfield with 26 points. Brandi Platz added 11 points.

Sara Kottke scored 19 points for the Mustangs.

Springfield (4-7, 2-4) will travel to Wabasso (6-2, 4-1) on Monday.

Prep boys’ basketball

GFW 45, Wabasso 40

WABASSO — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop downed Wabasso on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Tony Franta led Wabasso with 18 points and seven rebounds. Brock Rohlik added 9 points with five rebounds and Cooper Taylor had 8 points and five rebounds.

GFW (2-6, 2-3) will travel to Nicollet (7-4, 4-0) on Tuesday. Wabasso (1-7, 2-2) will play at Red Rock Central on Saturday.

Nicollet 69, Madelia 65 (OT)

MADELIA — Dustin Bode of Nicollet made 4 of 4 free throws in overtime to help the Raiders edge Madelia on Friday in a Valley Conference contest. As a team, Nicollet converted on 6 of 7 free throws.

Ja’Sean Glover, who led Madelia with 17 points, hit a shot at the buzzer to force overtime. Logan Anderson added 15 points for Madelia.

Ean Thomsen led Nicollet with 24 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Riley Hulke added 14 points, nine assists and five steals. Josh Chadderdon had 10 points and four steals.

Nicollet (7-4, 4-0) will host Immanuel Lutheran on Monday. Madelia (0-9, 0-3) will play at Red Rock Central (6-2, 3-1) on Tuesday.
