Springfield boys’ dominate GFW; MVL girls win on the road

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield crushed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Isaac Fink scored 31 points and added six assists, while Tanner Vogel added 23 points and five assists.

Zach Weber led GFW with 12 points and Kyle Huiras had 11 points.

Springfield (6-0, 4-0) will play at Mankato Loyola on Tuesday. GFW will participate in the Norwood-Young America invitational Tournament on Dec. 28.

CM/C 72, Sleepy Eye 47

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey handed Sleepy Eye a 72-47 loss on Friday night in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.

The Cougars (2-1, 1-1) were led by Eli Samuelson with 21 points, Dylan Hillesheim with 18 points and Lewis Pendleton with 12 points and 11 assists.

No stats were provided by Sleepy Eye (2-5, 1-2).

Nicollet 82, St. Mary’s 62

SLEEPY EYE — Nicollet defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 82-62 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Nicollet was led by Riley Hulke, who had 22 points and 11 assists. Also for Nicollet, Ean Thomsen had 21 points, seven rebounds, five steals and five blocks, Anthony Macias had 12 points and Ben Bode had 10 points.

St. Mary’s was led by Carter Currans, who scored 13 points, and Collin Ludewig, who scored 12 points.

St. Mary’s hosts Wabasso at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nicollet hosts Sleepy Eye at 6 p.m. on Monday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Nicollet 70-47 on Friday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

St. Mary’s leading scorers were Sydney Windschitl, who scored 15 points, Jody Hansen and Madison Mathiowetz, who both scored 14 points, and Cassie Heinrichs, who scored 12 points.

Nicollet was led by Kaitlyn Frutiger, who scored 11 points. Also for Nicollet, Grace Dehen had 9 points and four steals and Brooke Skrien had 8 points and six rebounds.

Nicollet (5-2, 2-0) hosts Sleepy Eye at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Mary’s hosts Wabasso at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

MVL 75, BLHS 44

HECTOR — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 75-44 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

MVL was led by Haley Birkholz, who scored 14 points. Also for MVL, Hannah Marzinske and Maddie Spurgin scored 12 points, and Lauren Paulsen had 9 points and six rebounds.

BLHS was led by Sara Kottke, who scored 15 points, and Keegan Hanson, who scored 12 points.

MVL (4-5) hosts Mountain Lake at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Springfield 34

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Springfield 70-34 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

GFW was led by Emily Hiemkes, who had 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Also for GFW, Maddy Elder scored 14 points.

Springfield’s leading scorer was Sydney Hauger, who scored 15 points.

GFW (5-0) plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Mountain Lake. Springfield hosts BOLD at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
