New Ulm Legion Hall of Fame to induct 4 new members

NEW ULM — Membership in the New Ulm American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame will increase to 89, with four new members joining the group on Dec. 23 at the Legion Clubrooms.

The induction ceremony will take place at 2 p.m.

The Legion Hall of Fame will celebrate its 31st year as the selection committee names the following three players and one non-player to the honored assemblage. The public is invited.

Scott Knisley

Knisley played from 2004-06 at shortstop. He had a career batting average of .389 with 10 home runs and 92 RBIs.

He was a team leader on teams that qualified for the state tournament in 2005 and 2006. He resides in New Ulm with his wife Jill and two sons and is employed by the City of New Ulm Public Utilities.

Tyler Morgan

Morgan was a dual-rostered player and a postseason addition to the New Ulm Gold team for the 2003 Central Plains Regional Tournament. He played from 2004-06.

He was a catcher and had a .441 batting average with 12 homers and 57 RBIs in 2006. Morgan is the all-time leader in career home runs with 23 and was a teammate of Knisley on the two state tournament teams.

He currently lives in Missouri City, Texas, where he is a teacher and athletic director at Sienna Luther Academy. His wife’s name is Mara and they have one daughter.

Brady Mosenden

Mosenden played two years for the New Ulm Gold team (2005-06) and was a pitcher. His career pitching stats were 8-4 with a 2.27 ERA.

He struck out 66 batters in 79.1 innings and batted .349 with 44 RBIs, while helping his team to state in 2006. He lives in Rochester, Minnesota and is employed by IBM.

Vern Kitzberger

Kitzberger joined New Ulm’s American Legion Baseball Committee in early 2003 and has served continuously since. He was secretary for two years and then became committee chairman.

He served in the capacity for 11 years until recently stepping down from that position. He has also, at various times, served as program manager, co-chairman of state tournaments for VFW and was venue chairman for the 2003 Central Plains Regional Tournament. He has also been a head coach and public address announcer.

He is also serving his sixth year as Minnesota’s 2nd District American Legion Baseball Director. He is married to Pam and they have two children. He also has three grandchildren.
