New Ulm loses to Delano/Rockford

NEW ULM — Delano/Rockford defeated New Ulm 5-2 on Monday in a nonconference boys’ tennis match.
“Delano/Rockford plays in a tough conference and they are building up a good program,” New Ulm head coach Pete Engeldinger said.
New Ulm won last year’s match 4-3.
The No. 2 doubles team of Craig Schapekahm and Mike Messenger went to a super tiebreaker against Trey Longstreet and Ray Leonard. However, they lost the set 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.
“They’re a good team to play against. We played hard, gave it our all, but we didn’t come in the end,” Schapekahm said.
Messenger said that they were evenly matched and it went back and forth.
Joel Koelpin won at No. 1 singles 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 and Andrew Goodall won at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-1.
Lucas Veleo lost at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0 and Colton Collum lost at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1.
In No. 1 doubles, Kelby Stocker and Tyler Guggisberg lost 6-1, 6-4 while Tony Rosenhammer and Dakota Berbrich lost at No. 3 doubles 6-3, 6-1.
New Ulm will host Mankato West on Tuesday.
