Cathedral softball team pounds JWP in 5 innings

NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton in five innings 12-2 on Thursday in a nonconference softball game.

The winning pitcher was Cathedral’s Josie Pautzke, who had four strikeouts and allowed five hits.

The leading hitters for Cathedral were Lauryn Frank who was 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Josie Pautzke who was 3 for 3 with a two-run home run, Jenna Helget who was 3 for 3 and Mason Brand who was 2 for 3 with a home run.

Cathedral (4-0, 3-0) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

NEW ULM — The New Ulm boys’ golf team won its home golf invitational scoring a 323 on Thursday.

The medalist was New Ulm’s Glavine Schugel who shot a 72. Also leading New Ulm was Aiden Gussisberg with an 80.

The New Ulm girls’ came in fourth with a 449.

The top scorers for the New Ulm girls were Abbey Frauenholtz, who shot an 86 and Izzie Wolkow who shot a 107.

New Ulm competes at 1 p.m. on Friday in Jordan.

MADELIA — The Madelia boys’ golf team defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday.

Madelia’s Joe Fenske was the medalist with a 39 and Jared Henry shot a 44.

On the girls’ side, Ally Missling led Madelia with a 57.

LAMBERTON — The Cedar Mountain boys’ and girls’ golf teams swept a Tomahawk Conference golf triangular on Thursday.

For the boys, Cedar Mountain’s Connor Nelsen was the medalist with a 43. Wabasso’s Garet Sagedahl shot a 45 and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Cole Blumhoefer shot a 53.

On the girls’ side, Cedar Mountain’s Erica Bock was the medalist with a 50. Annie Pomplun and Halley Busse shot a 62 and Anna Rohland shot a 56 for Wabasso.

BUFFALO LAKE — The Springfield boys won the Tomahawk Conference golf triangular in Buffalo Lake on Thursday with a score of 180.

The medalists for the boys were Springfield’s Maverick Winkelmann and Mason Kretsch, who both shot a 44.

The leader for Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart was Carter Best, who shot a 57.

New Ulm Cathedral was led by Ethan Kirchberg (47).

The Springfield girls won the triangular with a score of 176.

The medalist for the girls was Springfield’s Callie Wersal with a 42.

BLHS was led by Audree Ginsberg who shot a 43 and Kayla Goblirsch led Cathedral with a 46.

New Ulm 13, Waseca 2

WASECA — New Ulm’s J.T. Hoffmann was 4 for 4 with four runs scored and three RBIs as New Ulm crushed Waseca in a Big South Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Brandon Mehlhop was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew Peters was 2 for 4 and Bayler Kraus was 2 for 5.

Alex Lund pitched four innings, struck out three and allowed one hit in the win. Mike Felber pitched two innings and gave up two runs and Peters pitched an inning.

New Ulm is at Worthington on Tuesday.

BOLD 8, NUC 0

BIRD ISLAND — BOLD defeated New Ulm Cathedral 8-0 on Thursday in a nonconference baseball game.

The winning pitcher was BOLD’s James Woelfel. Cathedral had only one hit in the game.

The leading hitters for BOLD were Luke Ryan who was 2 for 3 with a triple, Jack Peppel who was 2-for-4 with a double, and Guy Hughes who was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run.

Cathedral plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Loyola 8, Nicollet 1

NICOLLET — Mankato Loyola swept Nicollet on Thursday in a Valley Conference baseball doubleheader.

In the first game, Ben Radke took the loss for Nicollet. He allowed five walks and nine hits.

The leading hitters for Nicollet were Logan Shay, who was 1 for 3 with a single and a stolen base, and Travis Selby who was 1 for 3 with a single.

Hunter Johnson took the loss in Game 2. He had two strikeouts and allowed five hits and two walks.

Johnson was 2 for 3 with a single, double and a run scored and Eric Fischer was 1 for 2 with a single and a run scored. Anthony Macias was 1 for 2 with a single.

LCWM 10, Madelia 0,

LAKE CRYSTAL — Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial defeated Madelia in a Valley Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Luke Hennis took the loss for Madelia. He gave up five runs and three hits. He struck out one and walked three. Madelia had only one hit in the game.

Madelia travels to Austin on Saturday for a tournament. It plays Spring Grove at 3 p.m. and Austin-Pacelli at 5 p.m.
