Joel Maturi to be the guest speaker at New Ulm Club banquet
NEW ULM — Former University of Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi will be the guest speaker at the 63rd annual New Ulm Club Senior Award banquet on April 8.
Maturi is the former athletic director at the University of Denver (1996-1998), Miami University (1998-2002) and the University of Minnesota (2002-2012). He also served as associate athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1987-1996.
While at the University of Minnesota, his teams won several national championships, including three in women’s hockey (2004, 2005, 2012), two in men’s hockey (2002 and 2003), one in wrestling (2007), and one in men’s golf (2002).
He is a native of Chisholm and he studied at Notre Dame University and Wisconsin and he serves on various NCAA committees.
The New Ulm Club honors the senior boy and girl athletes from New Ulm Cathedral, Minnesota Valley Lutheran and New Ulm High School. An outstanding girl and boy athlete from each school is also recognized for their athletics and academics. Past winners from 25 and 50 years ago are also invited to attend the event.
Tickets are available for $15 at Nicklasson Athletic, club members and coaches from each of the three high schools in New Ulm.
