Wrestlers moving on from Day 1 in Section 3AA tournament

REDWOOD FALLS — The New Ulm Area wrestling team has four wrestlers in the semifinals after Day 1 of the Section 3AA wrestling tournament in Redwood Falls.

Ryan Wacker (126 pounds), No. 9 Sean Howk (132), No. 7 Hunter Ranweiler (138) and Tanner Stark (152) are all in contention for a spot in the finals if they win their respective semifinal matches on Saturday morning.

The other wrestlers have a chance to wrestle back and possibly clinch a state berth, so long as the loser of the finals match did not beat them previously.

Howk is seeking his third-straight trip to state, while Ranweiler is seeking his first after coming up short in years’ past. Wacker, a senior, qualified for state as a freshman but has not been back since.

Wabasso/Red Rock Central has nine wrestlers moving onto the semifinals in Mason Irlbeck (106 pounds), Tyson Doubler (138), Jared Schroepfer (145), Cody Dudgeon (152), Cole Werner (160), Nick Altermatt (170), Mitchell Fulton (182), Devan Liebl (195) and Jared Welch (Hwt).

Schroepfer and Welch qualified for state last year. Welch, a senior, is seeking his fourth-straight trip to state, having placed as a sophomore.

Maverick Goblisch (113) and Tayte Harazin (132) moved onto the semifinals for Redwood/River Valley.

The action resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday at Redwood Valley High School.
