Longtin qualifies for state
MANKATO — Sarah Longtin punched her ticket to the state gymnastics meet with a third-place finish in the balance beam at the Section 2A gymnastics meet on Thursday in Mankato.
Longtin, a junior for New Ulm, posted an 8.800 score on the beam, which has historically been New Ulm’s weakest event as a team.
As a team, New Ulm placed third out of nine with a 135.925 score. Mankato West placed first to qualify as a team with a 142.175, while Waconia was second with a 139.675.
Senior Molly Klimek was fifth on beam (8.500), fifth on floor (9.150), eighth on bars (8.000) and 10th on vault (8.650), just missing the cut on the former two events.
Senior Ellie Hohensee was seventh on bars (8.200) and ninth on floor (9.000).
Junior Emma Gauert was eighth on beam (8.250), while freshman Kaylee Hutchinson was ninth on floor (9.000).
In the all-around competition, Klimek was eighth (34.300), Longtin was ninth (34.300) and Hohensee was 10th (33.575).
The state gymnastics meet will be held on Feb. 24-25 at the Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
