New Ulm picks up win vs. LCWM

New Ulm boys 61, LCWM 58

LAKE CRYSTAL — New Ulm edged Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Monday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Cooper Yackley scored 22 points and had eight rebounds. Connor Foley added 21 points with 13 rebounds and Alex Lund added 10 points.

New Ulm will travel to Jordan on Tuesday.

GFW girls 84, LSH 23

LE SUEUR — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop crushed Le Sueur-Henderson on Monday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Halley Busse led GFW with 24 points and nine assists. Maddy Elder added 20 points, Miah Busse scored 14 points and Emily Heimkes had 10 points.

GFW (10-7) will play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday in Fairfax.

Cathedral girls 46, Madelia 30

MADELIA — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Madelia on Monday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Nicole Ganglehoff scored 18 points and Jenna Helget added 13 points with 10 rebounds for Cathedral.

Lizzie Cooling scored 10 points for Madelia.

Cathedral (6-12) will host Wabasso at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Madelia (3-14) will host Heron Lake-Okabena on Thursday.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

New Ulm 3, Windom Area 1

WINDOM — New Ulm downed Windom Area on Monday in a Big South Conference girls’ hockey game.

Caleigh Heck scored a goal with an assist by Elle Cooper. Dani Weiss scored a goal assisted by Ali Beltz. Lauren Klein scored a power-play goal with assists by Ashtyn Wiltscheck and Jackie Cowing.

The Eagles had a total of 48 shots on goal. Karlie Ries had seven saves out of eight shots on goal.

New Ulm will play Friday at Luverne.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

New Ulm 12, Windom Area 0

WINDOM — New Ulm blew out Windom Area 12-0 in a Big South Conference boys’ hockey game.

The Eagles (9-9-1) got two goals apiece from Glavine Schugel and Nate Miller. Brandon Mehlhop, Cole Wellmann, Landon Strong, Michael Felber, Bayler Kraus, Sam Berg, Nick Banal and Tomas Babik also scored for the Eagles.

Jack Raymond had 11 saves in goal.

New Ulm hosts Luverne on Thursday.
