NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — New Ulm got back on the winning track, beating Belle Plaine 86-44 in its second game of the NYA girls’ basketball invitational on Friday.
Senior Meleah Reinhart led the Eagles (9-1) with 24 points. Sophomore Joey Batt had 22 points and 10 assists, while fellow sophomore Iyanna Wieland had 10 points. Senior Dani Hogue had seven rebounds.
New Ulm hosts Waseca on Tuesday.
New Ulm boys 65, GFW 44
NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — New Ulm beat Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 65-44 in the second day of the NYA boys’ basketball invitational on Friday.
Cooper Yackley had 26 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles, while Connor Foley had 23 points and seven rebounds.
Zach Weber led the Thunderbirds with 13 points.
New Ulm plays Tuesday at Waseca, while GFW hosts Sibley East on Friday.
CM/C boys 83, RCW 70
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey beat Renville County West 83-70 in its final game of the Mountain Lake Area boys’ basketball invitational on Friday.
Dylan Hillesheim led the Cougars (5-1) with 21 points and eight rebounds. Wambde Diaz had 19 points, Eli Samuelson had 17 points and Derek Pendleton had 13 points and nine assists. Lewis Pendleton had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
CM/C plays Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain on Thursday at East Chain.
SARTELL — The New Ulm girls’ hockey team won both games at the Sartell/Sauk Rapids invitational, beating West Fargo 2-1 on Thursday before beating Fargo North 2-0 on Friday.
In the first game, the Eagles (12-1-1) scored two goals in the second to take the 2-1 lead, winning by that score. Lauren Klein scored the first goal unassisted before Caleigh Heck scored the second, assisted by Dani Weiss and Ali Beltz.
Karlie Ries had 21 saves in goal for the Eagles in the first game.
Cassie Reed had 30 saves in Friday’s shutout, as Beltz and Weiss scored for the Eagles with an assist by Heck on the first goal.
New Ulm returns to host Hutchinson on Tuesday.
