Sleepy Eye boys rout BLHS, CM/C, GFW boys’ basketball teams win

Boys’ basketball

Sleepy Eye 73, BLHS 37

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Caleb Christensen scored 15 points for Sleepy Eye. Zach Haala added 14 points and Ben Laffen had 12 points and 11 assists.

Payton Diepold scored 12 points and 11 rebounds for BLHS.

Sleepy Eye (3-1) will travel to Red Rock Central on Monday. BLHS will travel to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

GFW 62, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 53

SLEEPY EYE — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (1-1) defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (2-2) in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday.

Zach Weber led GFW with 15 points on the night.

St. Mary’s will host Springfield Monday at 7:30.

GFW will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

CM/C 67 Wabasso 51

WABASSO — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated Wabasso 67-51 in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday.

Eli Samuelson led the Cougars with 24 points and Derek Pendleton had 18.

Tony Franta ended the night with 15 points and Myles Zeug scored 13.

CM/C will travel to Sleepy Eye on Friday. Wabasso will host Fulda on Saturday.

Girls’ basketball

Mankato Loyola 59, Nicollet 39

NICOLLET — Mankato Loyola defeated Nicollet on Friday in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

Natasha Young had 10 points and eight rebounds for Nicollet. Taylor Young added eight points and Hailey Hulke scored eight points.

Lindsey Theuninck led all scorers with 21 points for Loyola. Sidney Botker added 13 points and RaeAnn Dose had nine points.

Nicollet (2-1, 1-1) will play at Mayer Lutheran on Saturday.

GFW 71, St. Mary’s 47

FAIRFAX — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop placed five players in double figures as the Thunderbirds downed Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball contest.

Maddy Elder had 14 points, Erin Haas added 13 points, Emma Jo Elder had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Katelynn Firle scored 12 points and Halley Busse had 11 points, eight assists and five steals.

Cassie Heinrichs scored 16 points and Anna Lux had 11 points for the Knights.

GFW (2-1) will host Redwood Valley on Tuesday. St. Mary’s will play at Springfield on Tuesday.

Springfield 70,

New Ulm Cathedral 60

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated New Ulm Cathedral on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Lauryn Franta and Jenna Helget each scored 13 points for Cathedral. Nicole Ganglehoff added 11 points.

Vishe Rabb scored 33 points and Sydney Hauger had 21 points for the Tigers.

Springfield (3-2, 2-1) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday and Cathedral (1-3, 1-2) will travel to Wabasso on Tuesday.

CM/C 82 Wabasso 61

MORGAN–Cedar Mountain-Comfrey defeated Wabasso (2-2) 82-61 in a girls’ Tomahawk Conference battle on Friday night.

Paige Richert led CM/C with 32 points and 20 rebounds, Abby Jemmings ended the night with 14 points and Taylor Rose had 10 points.

Wabasso’s Alison Benz ended the night with 19 points, Maddison Guetter had 14 points and Jenna Frank had 12 points.

CM/C will host Mountain Lake Area in Comfrey at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wabasso will host Fulda at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sleepy Eye 69, BLHS 27

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye (4-0) defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (1-3) 69-27 in a girls’ Tomahawk Conference battle Friday night.

Madison Heiderscheidt led the Indians with 15 points.

Alaina Leske ended the night with 10 points for BLHS.

Sleepy Eye will travel to Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

BLHS  plays at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at MVL.
