New Ulm girls beat Marshall 5-1

New Ulm 5, Marshall 1

MARSHALL — New Ulm defeated Marshall on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls’ hockey game.

Lauren Klein scored an unassisted goal for New Ulm.

Dani Weiss scored two goals. Her first one was a power play with assists by Lauren Klein and Ali Beltz. Weiss’ second goal came on an assist by Caleigh Heck. Heck scored a goal with an assist by Morgan Klein.

Ashtyn Wiltscheck scored a goal with an assist by Jackie Cowing.

Goaltender Karlie Ries had 18 saves and the Eagles had 26 shots on goal.

New Ulm (6-1-1) will host Fairmont on Tuesday.

Boys’ basketball

Mankato West 102, New Ulm 48

MANKATO — Mankato West defeated New Ulm on Thursday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Connor Foley led New Ulm with 13 points, Alex Lund had 12 points and Cooper Yackley added 10 points.

New Ulm (0-3) will play at Le Sueur-Henderson on Thursday.

T/ML/GHEC 73, Nicollet 70

NICOLLET — Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain edged Nicollet on Thursday in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game.

Ean Thomsen led Nicollet with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Riley Hulke added 16 points and 10 assists.

Nicollet will St. James Area on Monday.

Cleveland 75, Madelia 34

CLEVELAND — Cleveland defeated Madelia on Thursday in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball contest.

Augie Reihs led Madelia with 16 points.

Madelia (1-3, 0-1) will host St. Clair on Dec. 16.

Prep gymnastics

Worthington 140.325, New Ulm 130.95

WORTHINGTON — Worthington edged New Ulm on Thursday in a nonconference gynnastics meet.

Molly Klimek was fourth on the bars (8.15), fifth in the vault (8.75) and fourth in the all-around (32.75).

Brooke Aschenbrenner placed fourth on the beam with an 8.15 and Ellie Hohensee was fourth on the floor exercise with a 9.15.

New Ulm (0-1) will participate in the Mankato Tournament on Saturday.
