Eagles to host Epilepsy Awareness game on Friday

NEW ULM — The New Ulm girls’ basketball team will host an Epilepsy Awareness game at 7:30  p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9.

This is the third Epilepsy Awareness game in honor or Kaylie Hogue.

On June 5, 2013, Hogue died unexpectedly from an epileptic seizure. At the time of her death, she was a 24-year-old engaged high school teacher. She is the sister of New Ulm High School senior basketball player Dani Hogue. This game was started to raise Epilepsy Awareness, in remembrance of Kaylie, who would light up an entire room with her smile. NUHS is the only high school in the state to do such an event.

The goal is to turn this tragedy into something good by trying to help others battling epilepsy.

The Eagles will host LeSueur-Henderson and author Jim Bruton and his wife will be at the game selling his books. He is the co-author of Jerry Kill’s book “Chasing Dreams: Living My Life One Yard at a Time.”

There will be a 50/50 raffle, half-court shot and a large silent auction at the event. For the silent auction, there items from professional sports teams, theater tickets, gift certificates, baskets, and items from local businesses as well as  theme baskets for all ages. In addition, Cambria out of Le Sueur will match the total amount donated. All proceeds plus Cambria’s match will be going to Jerry Kill’s Chasing Dreams Foundation.
