MVL boys, St. Mary’s boys win

MVL 46, MCW 32

SHERBURN — Minnesota Valley Lutheran downed Martin County West on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball contest.

Nick Fischer had 16 points and 13 rebounds for MVL. Jake Kettner added 11 points.

MVL (2-0) will host Wabasso on Tuesday.

St. Mary’s 55, LP/HT 51

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Friday in the first round of the Sleepy Eye Tip-off tournament.

Alex Woitas led the Knights with 21 points and Nathan Schroepfer added 17 points.

Rees Schuette led LP/HT with 15 points and Michael Ziermann had 14 points.

St. Mary’s (1-0) will face Murray County Central at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the next round of the tournament.

MLA 65,

Springfield 62

SPRINGFIELD — Mountain Lake Area defeated Springfield 65-62 nonconference boys’ basketball game on Friday night.

Springfield was led by Tanner Vogel, who scored 19 points, Isaac Fink who had 17, and Andrew Beckman who had 10.

Mt. Lake’s top scorers were Weston Osland with 21 points, Levi Stoesz with 17 points and Aaron Fast with 12 points.

Springfield plays at Cedar Mountain/Comfrey at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

St. Clair 65, New Ulm Cathedral 52

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair downed New Ulm Cathedral on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Nathan Hauser led all scorers with 32 points and five rebounds for Cathedral. Alex Hillesheim had seven points and four rebounds.

Mitchell Weber scored 25 points for St. Clair and Grant Nagel had 16 points.

Cathedral (0-1) will travel to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.

JWP 59, Madelia 57

TRUMAN — Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton defeated Madelia 59-57 in the first game of the Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain boys’ basketball tournament.

Madelia led 30-27 at halftime but JWP scored with 4.5 seconds left in the game to break a 57-57.

Madelia was led by Augie Reihs, who had 19 points and nine rebounds. Matt Baumgartner scored 13 points.

Madelia hosts a tournament at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
