JCC blanks New Ulm

JACKSON – While the New Ulm volleyball team remained competitive with Jackson County Central, in the end JCC was too much as it defeated New Ulm 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 in Section 3AA volleyball action on Friday.

The loss ends New Ulm’s season at 2-19 while JCC, the No. 1 seed in Section 3AA, South Subsection, improved to 21-8.

The Eagles led 3-1 early on in the first set after a couple of hitting errors by JCC. However the Huskies battled back and took a 14-10 lead on a New Ulm hitting error.

The Eagles battled for most of the second set too before JCC pulled away. JCC led early at 6-2 and later 9-5. The Eagles trailed 11-9 but JCC pulled away late in the set.

Abby Benson led the way with 14 kills and Tiara Menke finished with seven kills for JCC. Lacy Wacker had nine kills for the Huskies.

Mackenzie Depew led New Ulm with six kills.

JCC will host the winner of Luverne and Martin County West at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wabasso defeats RTR

WABASSO – Wabasso defeated Russel-Tyler-Ruthton 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15 on Friday in the Section 3A volleyball playoffs.

Maddy Guetter had 25 kills and 28 digs for the Rabbits and Gina Goblirsch had 13 kills and 23 digs. Lainy Rohlik finished with 48 set assists and 21 digs. Allison Benz had eight kills.

Wabasso (23-7) plays MACCRAY on Tuesday at Southwest Minnesota State University.
