Buboltz leads MVL to victory

MVL 20, Sleepy Eye 8

SLEEPY EYE – Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Sleepy Eye 20-8 in Southwest District – East football action on Friday.

A.J. Buboltz rushed for two touchdowns for MVL.?He scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and a 21-yard run in the third quarter to put MVL up 14-0 after the 2-point conversion.

Lane Trebesch had a 95-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter from Sam Tessmer, but Buboltz returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the final score of the game.

RRC 35, St. Mary’s 14

LAMBERTON – Red Rock Central defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in Southwest District – East action on Friday.

Game statistics were not reported to The Journal.

St.?Mary’s (3-3) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Friday. RRC travels to Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Friday.

Fulda 27, Madelia 22

MADELIA – Fulda scored the game-winning touchdown with :51 left in the game to down Madelia in a 9-man South District West football game.

No statistics were available.

Madelia (2-4) will travel to Heron Lake-Okabena on Friday.

CMC 2, RCW 0

Worthington 2, CMC 0

MARSHALL – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey went 1-1 during the first round of the Subway Classic Tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday.

CMC downed Renville County West 25-17, 25-8. Makenzie Kerkhoff led the Cougars with 11 kills and Paige Richert added seven kills. Abby Jemmings had 25 set assists, Lauren Boyle added 10 digs and Jordan Kevelin had 10 digs.

Worthington later beat CM/C 25-19, 25-16. Jemmings had 19 set assists, Boyle added 16 digs and Kylie Wersal added 12 digs.

CMC will play on Saturday in the next round of the tournament.

Girl’s soccer

Waseca 4, New Ulm 1

WASECA – Waseca defeated New Ulm 4-1 in a Big South Conference girl’s soccer game on Friday.

New Ulm got its only goal from Elle Cooper. The assist went to Courtney Jakes and the goal was scored in the second half.

New Ulm (4-9) is at Mankato Loyola for a 9 a.m. contest on Saturday.

Boy’s soccer

Waseca 3, New Ulm 1

WASECA – Waseca defeated New Ulm in Big South Conference boy’s soccer action on Friday.

Joel Koelpin scored New Ulm’s only goal with 33:30 left in the second half.

New Ulm hosts Albert Lea at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at New Ulm High School for a Section 2A playoff game.
