NEW ULM – The time has come.

The New Ulm Steel Junior A hockey team plays their first-ever home game at 7 p.m. this Friday at the New Ulm Civic Center when it hosts the Alexandria Blizzard.

And besides the game, there are a lot of festivities planned, which that fans coming to the Civic Center can see each game.

“We will have a light show and giveaways,” said Bryant Black, General Manager of the Steel. “There will be on-ice between-period activities. We will introduce all of the Steel players before the game. We will be doing a lot of different things that New Ulm has not seen at a hockey game. We will have laser and strobe lights when the Steel players are introduced.”

One of the between-period activities is one sponsored by S&S Motors.

“Every home game we are going to have some sort of activity on the ice,” Black said. “One of these is we will have people come on the ice and try and make a shot from center ice. If you make it you will qualify for a drawing at the end of the year. There we will have three people have their names drawn and come on the ice for a shot from center ice. If you make that same shot then, you will win a new car from S&S Motors.”

Ticket purchases are also good for a buy-one-get-one-free drink after the game at the B&L Bar in New Ulm. Also the ticket is good for $5 off food purchase.

Alcohol can be purchased but can only be consumed inside the arena and not in the concourse.

Right now, Black said that the Steel have sold roughly 130 season tickets.

“The season ticket holders will get special treatment – they will be able to go in separate doors before the game so they can bypass lines,” Black said. “There will also be special events for them.”

Season tickets can still be puchased at the Civic Center begining on Thursday. Cost is $189 for adults, $152 for seniors and $99 for students.

Single-game tickets can also be purchased for $10 adult, $8 senior and $5 student (17 and under). Kids 5 and under are free.

The Steel are working on ticket outlets here in New Ulm and that will be announced soon.

Tickets for Friday’s game can be purchased Thursday afternoon at the Civic Center.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday for the 7 p.m. puck drop. Great hockey, great time and a great venues.
