NEW ULM – The New Ulm defeated Fairbault 1-0 in a nonconference girl’s soccer game Tuesday.

Paige Kalis scored New Ulm’s lone goal unassisted. The Eagles’ Emily Schotzko had four saves throughout the game.

New Ulm (1-1) hosts Waseca at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

BOY’S SOCCER

Faribault 6, New Ulm 1

FARIBAULT – New Ulm lost to Faribault 6-1 in a nonconference boy’s soccer game on Tuesday.

Matt Messenger scored the lone goal for the Eagles (0-2) with an assist from Nate Miller at the 37-minute mark.

New Ulm plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Waseca.

GIRL’S TENNIS

New Ulm 6, Worthington 1

WORTHINGTON – New Ulm defeated Worthington 6-1 in a Big South Conference girl’s tennis meet Tuesday night.

Taylor Bouldan came away with a win for New Ulm 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Rose Dobie won at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-1 and Emma Maudal won at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles winners were Meleah Reinhart and Jane Arnoldt 6-0, 6-1; Breanna Widmer and Shelby Haseman 6-2, 6-3, and Abbey Frauenholtz and Katia Ostermann 6-4, 6-2.

New Ulm hosts Redwood Valley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

St. Mary’s 3, MVL 0

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s beat Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-19, 25-16,25-10 in a designated nonconfrence volleyball match on Tuesday.

Jody Hansen tallied 18 set assists with nine digs for the Knights. Megan Labat had 11 digs and Kayci Kuebler with six digs. Anna Lux added seven kills on the night.

Haley?Birkholz had five kills and Brittany Sanders had nine set assists offensively. Maddie Spurgin had 13 digs and Hannah Biedenbender had 12 digs.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s will host Sleepy Eye at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. MVL hosts Cathedral at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Loyola 3, Sleepy Eye 0

SLEEPY EYE – Mankato Loyola beat Sleepy Eye 25-12, 25-17, 25-17 in nonconference volleyball on Tuesday.

Sleepy Eye’s Mya Ibberson had seven kills and Maddi Krueger had three kills with four digs. Cassidy Hoffmann tallied 13 set assists on the night.

Sleepy Eye will play at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

RRC 3, Springfield 1

LAMBERTON – Red Rock Central defeated Springfield 25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 25-12 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.

Vishe’ Rabb had 13 kills, four blocks and 10 digs for the Tigers, while Kenna Wahl had 12 kills and eight digs. Callie Wersal had 22 set assists, three blocks and one ace, while Alyssa Streich had two aces.

Rachel Kedl had 15 kills, six total blocks and 13 digs for the Falcons.

Springfield hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday. Red Rock Central hosts Wabasso on Thursday.

MACCRAY 3, BLHS 0

HECTOR – MACCRAY defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-15, 25-12, 29-27 in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday.

BLHS was led by Maddie Ehlers who had eight set assists and four digs and Alaina Leske, who had four kills.

BLHS plays at Central Minnesota Christian at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

CROSS-COUNTRY

St. Mary’s girls place 1st, boys 3rd at St. James

ST. JAMES – The Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral girl’s cross-country team placed first out of three teams, while the boys were third at the St. James invitational on Tuesday.

Abby Hagen was the highest finisher for the Knights, placing third overall with a time of 22:44. Cassidy Hacker was fourth with a 22:55 and Kira DeMaris, Jenny Lax and Mary Joyce were fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

Isaac Nelson led the boys with a sixth-place finish, while Zach Schumacher was 15th, Ethan Kirchberg was 16th, Josh Hagen was 21st and Caleb Kirchberg was 22nd.

VOLLEYBALL FROM MONDAY

CM/C 3, Nicollet 1

NICOLLET – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey defeated Nicollet 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 25-13 in a nonconference volleyball match on Monday.

Senior middle hitter Paige Richert led the Cougars (1-0) offensively with 17 kills. Makenzie Kerkhoff had 12 kills and two service aces, while Erica Bock had six kills.

Setter Abby Jemmings had 32 set assists, four aces and three kills. Defensively, Jordan Kevelin had 22 digs and Lauren Boyle had 21.

Mountain Lake Area 3, Madelia 2

MADELIA – Mountain Lake Area defeated Madelia in five sets 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-7 in a nonconference volleyball match on Monday.

Madison Mueller had 15 kills and Carissa Caraway had 12 kills, three blocks and four aces offensively for the Blackhawks (0-2). Lizzie Cooling had 39 set assists as well.

Madelia will play Thursday at Cedar Mountain/Comfrey.
