Congress has ALREADY passed a law banning incandescent bulbs starting in just a few years. I am concerned because not enough people realize that that the popular compact fluorescent bulbs have mercury in them ! Break one in your home and you can spend up to $2,000.00 having the hazardous material removed. If just one breaks in a landfill the mercury in it can contaminate 60,000 gallons of ground water. I wouldn't want that coming out of my tap ! And for those complaining about Dems and Republicans....remember that we do have a Democratic Congress to pass the laws, but we have a Republican President that signs them into effect.

I remember hearing that fluorescent lighting is bad for your eyes and skin. Any truth to that?

ImDaKid...who do you think is making the laws to restrict incandescent light bulbs? the ones in control of Congress ... the Democrats. A president doesn't make any laws. Why to vote Republican = Democrats

Why never to vote republican = George W. Bush. Lets not worry about light bulbs, when we have 10000 more important things to worry about, jeez!

I completely agree, how does this have anything to do with the democrats? It seems like such a typical thing for many members of this community to blame all their problems on democrats. As far as the question, I don't think its good to require people to use fluorescent light bulbs, but I think they should be promoted much more. With how much less electricity they use use compared to conventional light bulbs, its a great way to start saving the environment.

I guess some people are now blaming democrats and Al Franken for the Journal asking a stupid question .What in the world does this poll have to do with the democrats anyway .

Why in god name would you ask such a stupid question . Just how far do you think we should let the government intrude on our lives ?

Governments should allow us to use fluorescent light bulbs. Or any other kinds of light bulbs for that matter, but not dictate or legislate about things which are not the duty of the government. Congress already has required far too many things, usually to the detriment of the country.

Keep voting democrat. You get what you ask for. Get Franken in office. Everytime he makes a mistake, he says he's a comedian and was making a joke. Should we believe the politican or the comedian? We already made that mistake with "the body" reintroduced as "the mind". Keep those tax hikes coming, because the liberals know we can afford them.

Great. That's all we need now is the light bulb police. We already live in a nanny state where "government knows best" and now they are telling us what kind of lighting fixtures to use? What's next? Telling us how many miles we can drive our cars??
