Ask Marilyn
Houses With Electric Heat

Jay Stevens of Angola, Indiana, writes:

Marilyn: In your comments about running ceiling fans in heating season, you noted that the writer should compare the expense of operating the fan to the savings of the furnace running less. As all of the electric energy used by the fan ends up as heat in the room, the only cost would be the difference in a unit of heat from the furnace and a unit of electric heat. So if the house is heated electrically, no additional expense would be involved.
