MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A backup defensive back for Minnesota was arrested and briefly jailed after a confrontation with university police outside a pizza parlor early Monday.
University police say freshman Michael Carter was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice and consumption of liquor by a minor.
University of Minnesota police say officers observed Carter and a teammate attempting to ‘‘pick a fight’’ with two other men in front of Mesa Pizza in Dinkytown.
A police report says Carter refused to obey an officer’s orders and exhibited ‘‘aggressive behavior.’’
Carter has played in all nine games this season and recorded five tackles.
Athletic Department spokesman Garry Bowman says the department is investigating and has no comment. A published telephone number for Carter couldn’t be found.
