NEW ULM - Gladys Rusch, 88, the wife of Gordon Rusch, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Donald Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Thursday.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Gordon Rusch of New Ulm; a daughter, Beverly Jensen of Chaska; sons, Warren (Carol) Rusch of Eagen, Dennis (Kristy) Rusch of Ashland, Va.; grandchildren, Daniel and Brittney Rusch, Emily and Amy Jensen; sister, Lillian Stark of Olivia; and by her brothers, Ervin Westphal of Stewart and Alvin Westphal of Tampa, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dora Westphal in infancy; and by her son-in-law, Kevin Jensen.

Gladys Francis Westphal was born Sept. 24, 1925 in Preston Lake Township, Renville County, the daughter of Ferdinand and Bertha (Thiel) Westphal. She was baptized Nov. 29, 1925 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake and confirmed March 17, 1940 in the Lutheran Faith. Gladys attended school in District #130 and was a graduate of Buffalo Lake High School. She was united in marriage to Gordon Rusch on June 14, 1949 by Reverend P.W. Pilgrim at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. They moved to New Ulm in 1951 where she was employed at New Ulm High School in the cafeteria, 3M and then Windings until her retirement. She was an active gardener, a member of the Brown County Agricultural Gardening Society where she won many ribbons at the Brown County Fair, and she enjoyed Bingo. Gladys and Gordon were members of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the founders of the Kraft Retirees Club.
