Toni Karen Axtell, age 67, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and formerly New Ulm, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, in Sioux Falls after a courageous battle with breast cancer and heart failure.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sunday, August 31, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, North Chapel in New Ulm. Pastor Jo Anne Taylor will officiate and burial will take place in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home in New Ulm.

Toni is survived by her children, Roxanne (Roger, McKennah & Kassidy) Kasa of Sioux Falls, Michael Axtell of Sioux Falls; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren; her brother Thomas (Cindy) Steinke and family of Blue Earth; and her special friends, Penny, Jan and Dee.
She was preceded in death by her son, Peter Axtell; mother Gloria Steinke; brother Michael Steinke, her stepfather Rueben Steinke; and her aunt Lila Ballman.
Toni Karen Axtell was born on September 9, 1946 in Mankato. She graduated from Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac Minnesota. She lived in New Ulm and Sioux Falls for most of her life. She married Dale Axtell, but was later divorced. Toni spent her career working with AT&T, Northwestern Bell, Princess House, LaBelle's, and also had several bookkeeping jobs. She most recently worked for HSBC. Toni was involved in youth fast pitch softball and coached girls teams for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, CBA and NBA basketball, and her grandchildren.
