NEW ULM - Brown County Assessor Rita Treml informed Brown County commissioners Tuesday in her quarterly report about the state-ordered 2014 assessment.
She said the Minnesota State Board of Equalization ordered a county-wide 5 percent tax increase on 2a tillable agricultural land. The increase will be applied to the 2014 agricultural tillable land value and will affect taxable land value on 2015 real estate taxes.
Treml said the GIS Property Information section of the Brown County website has been updated with the new values. November Truth in Taxation Notices will be based on the new values.
In addition, real estate value paper certificates will not be accepted by the office as of Oct. 2, 2014. They must be submitted using eCRV after that date.

Probation Officer Jane Schmid attending the University of Wisconsin Conference on Child Sexual Abuse, Oct. 27-29, 2014. Schmid is assigned the highest-risk juvenile offenders including sex offenders and will be supervising eight male adolescent offenders who are either in placement, returned from placement or in the community Costs will be shared with Family Services staff who will also attend.
Accepting the resignation of Assistant Zoning Administrator/Emergency Management Director Desiree Hohenstein and posted the open full-time position according to policy. Hohenstein accepted a job with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) in Mankato.
County board budget sessions will be held at 9 a.m. today and Thursday and at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26.
