ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) — A western Illinois judge has postponed a preliminary hearing for a Rock Island man charged in the slaying of his former girlfriend.
The Rock Island Argus (http://bit.ly/1rG0esc) reports that the judge on Tuesday ordered the hearing for 39-year-old Timothy McVay be held Aug. 12. That will give defense attorneys two weeks to examine documents that detail the investigation.
McVay is charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Carrie Olson. Olson was reported missing when she didn't come to her job in Davenport, Iowa, on Dec. 30.
Olson's body was discovered in a Minnesota field three months later. McVay was arrested this month at his job in the Illinois community of Silvis after a joint investigation by police in Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.
He remains in custody.
