NEW ULM - The New Ulm Kaiserhoff lost 11-0 to Chanhassen on Sunday at Johnson Park in the elimination round of the Section 6-C River Valley League Tournament.
Chanhassen scored two runs in the top of the first inning. T.J. Gulden hit a two-out single. Shawn Riesgraff belted the ball over the left field fence.
Kaiserhoff starting pitcher Mike Schlottman had a quick second inning when he threw only four pitches and the Red Birds went down 1-2-3.
New Ulm kept Chanhassen from scoring until the seventh inning. Whenever the Kaiserhoff started to mount a threat, Chanhassen shut it down.
The Red Birds scored two runs in the seventh inning for a 4-0 lead.
Chanhassen sent nine batters to the plate in the eighth inning, which resulted in another five runs. A wild pitch scored two runners. Two more runs came in on a triple by Riesgraff, who scored on a double for a 9-0 Chanhassen lead.
The Red Birds took advantage of two walks in the ninth inning to make the final score 11-0.
Keith Besemer was the lead-off batter for the Kaiserhoff in the ninth inning, and he struck out. Justin Bruns was called out on strikes, and Wyatt Peterson hit a ground ball to the second baseman who threw it to first base for the final out.
Despite the score, the Kaiserhoff got 10 hits. But, New Ulm wasn't able to score. It committed four errors and left seven batters on base.
Chanhassen had 12 hits to go with its 11 runs. It committed no errors and left 10 men on base.
Chanhassen's Riesgraff went 3-for-6 with a home run, two singles and a triple. He also had four RBIs.
Erik Curry went 3-for-4 with three singles for New Ulm. Mike Schlottman was 2-for-4 with two singles.
Justin Kueth was the winning pitcher. He went eight innings and gave up no runs on 10 hits. He struck out two.
Mike Schlottman was the losing pitcher, going seven innings. He gave up four runs, eight hits and walked one.
Schlottman kept the Kaiserhoff in the game by not giving up any runs from the second through the seventh inning.
"We gave them a game. When we got runners in scoring position, they shut us down," said Kaiserhoff coach Tim Reinke.
Belle Plaine defeated the Kaiserhoff 17-1 on Friday to set up Sunday's game against Chanhassen.
New Ulm finishes its season 3-13.
