NEW ULM - The Planning Commission will meet today to consider a mining permit for a gravel pit.
An application on behalf of Haala Real Estate, LLC, was submitted requesting a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to allow the commercial excavating of natural materials at 1201-1417 N. Garden St. and 1201-1227 Elm St.
Portions of this property have previously been mined. The total area is approximately 5.53 acres. If approved, the applicant will need to secure a license from the city to open a grave pit.
City staff is recommending that the Council first approve documents detailing operation and water drainage plans for the site.
The Commission will also consider a petition on behalf of Vaharoslee, Inc., to rezone the property at 301 N. German St. from Limited Business District (B-1) to General Business District (B-3). In addition a CUP from Eric Bode is being requested to allow an residential building to be constructed on this property. If the rezoning request is approved, the construction of a 10-unit condominium project would be possible. The current proposal would require the demolition of the existing house on the site.
Another apartment permit is sought by Rick Apitz. He is requesting a CUP to create a single apartment unit for himself in a building zoned B-3 at 419 Second South Street.
Other business includes a simple lot division request in the Schweppe's Addition on behalf on Martin Luther College. The lot division would allow a section to be sold to the owner of the adjoining single-family dwelling
