New Ulm's Early Childhood Family Education program was one of 29 organizations to receive donated books through the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) thanks to their partnership with Capstone.
"We are pleased to be able to partner with Capstone to provide these books to promote early literacy and learning for our young children," notes SMIF's President and CEO Tim Penny (above, right). "We believe investing in our young children is a long-term strategy that will lead to a capable workforce."
ECFE was selected to receive 500 books valued at $8,500, because they provide outstanding early literacy opportunities for young children and their families in New Ulm. Books will be given to children and their parents during before school conferences with Creative Kids, Learning Together, Together We Grow, ECSE, Theo Wright Center, Head Start and New Ulm Public School's kindergarten program. Books will also be given to families participating in ECFE classes this fall. Giving the books to children and parents during the before school conferences, provide the opportunity to discuss the importance of reading at home.
