NEW ULM - The New Ulm Actors Community Theatre will celebrate the signing of a multi-year lease with landlord Cenate LLC, the owner of the former middle school on July 2.
The celebration is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on the lawn in front of the 1938 historic auditorium located at 5 North State Street, New Ulm.
Games for kids and adults, refreshments, and escorted tours will be available.
This is the first home for NUACT which traces its roots to 1978 with the formation of the Pioneer Players.
For the first time, the public will see the refurbished blue padded seats being installed in the center section of the auditorium and will be ready for the summer musical, "Fiddler on the Roof" which opens in late July.
Board President Kent Menzel said "This is an historic day for us and for our community. The public will see an increase in the number of events occurring inside the building including plays, musicals, children's programming, and dinner theatre."
Information about the upcoming season, fundraising, plans for the theatre, volunteering opportunities, and other events will be available from Chairperson Judy Sellner and other board members who will be on hand.
"We have long hoped for this moment and could not have reached this point without the great public support which we have received," Sellner said.
At 6 p.m. on the north side of the property, a tree will be planted in memory of Bobbi McCrea was instrumental in NUACT's development. Bobbi was a theatre lover and muse for many activities in the New Ulm community. Her family will attend and encourages Bobbi's friends to be a part of this upbeat memorial. The Reverend Hank Campbell will officiate.
