SLEEPY EYE-The District 84 Board of Education approved high school principal and business manager contracts on a lengthy list of action items Thursday.
High school principal Shane Laffen receive $92,900 for the 2014-15 school year. He received $89,778 for the 2013-14 school year. Business manager Amanda Boomgarten will receive a one percent raise next school year, boosting her salary to $46,000.
The board also approved:
Resignations of fall dance line Coach Rebecca Hinderman and head track coach Kris Bloedel; elementary instructor Sheri Swanson; and a 2014-15 leave of absence request by Gwen Rossbach.
Hiring art teacher Alyssa Mattheis, 1 FTE, $33,588; Shane Laffen as head basketball coach, $4,265 and head tennis coach $3,807; Brian Bauleke as assistant girls basketball coach $3,047.
Dissolution of a cooperative wrestling sponsorship with Springfield, which will co-op with Redwood Valley.
A $3,000 grant from Ag Star to the highs school agriculture department and a $6,000 LA Amundson Scholarship Foundation donation for permanent capital purchases.
Fiscal Year 2014, 2015 and 2016 Health & Safety Budgets from Tim Harbo of Harbo Consulting. The $114,727.12 2014 budget included $33,779 for high school bleacher seating replacement to meet Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) requirements after an Oct. 5, 2012 inspection; $8,400 to replace 90 feet of school auditorium railing that does not meet a four-inch gap code, to eliminate fall hazard, per review and recommendation by Karen Olson of the South Central Service Cooperative; and $8,200 to repair school concession stand walls and ceiling to meet MDH requirements, inspected Oct. 5, 2012.
Harbo said future health & safety projects include removing asbestos and tile in the former high school basement cafeteria.
Boomgarten's 2014-15 budget presentation. "Taher (food service) recommended we raise school lunches 10 cents to cover food cost inflation, Boomgarten said. "Our lunch program showed an $85 profit, which is good." The $7,409,515 district budget has $1,822,858 in undesignated reserve funds.
