SEARLES - After splitting a pair of games over the weekend, the Searles Bullheads 35-and-over baseball team evened their season record at 2-2.
On Sunday afternoon the Bullheads won handily over the Northfield Millers by a score of 14-0 in five innings. Manager Brian Sieve used 15 players as the Bullheads scored three runs in each of the first two innings and then scored eight more in the third.
Hitting doubles for the Searles team were Sieve, John Giefer and Corey Schaefer. Schaefer scored three times and had four RBIs for the day.
Scott Rummel pitched the first four innings, giving up just two hits and recording five strike outs. Chris Peters, making his debut as a Bullhead, pitched the 5th inning, giving up two hits but preserving the shut out on a couple of nice fly ball catches by the outfielders.
Friday evening the Searles Bullheads traveled to LeCenter to take on the Braves. Brant Drill, in his first outing of the season, pitched three innings of shutout ball for the Bullheads, allowing just two base runners, a single and a walk, while striking out five.
Searles took an early 4-0 lead as Troy Kamm and John Giefer each scored a run in each of the first two innings after getting on base via hits. LeCenter scored one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to make it a one-run game. Then in the top of the seventh the Bullheads scored an important insurance run to make it 5-3 on an error, a sacrifice bunt by Cory Haala, and an RBI single by Corey Schaefer. The hit by Schaefer was his third hit and third RBI of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, LeCenter went on to score three runs to snatch the victory by a score of 6-5. The Braves got three hits in the last inning, including two doubles, along with walk, to defeat the Bullheads. Kevin Hulke, who had relieved Drill in the fourth inning, suffered the loss.
The Searles Bullheads are off now until Saturday, June 21, when they travel to Loretto for a 6 p.m. game. They are back at home in Searles on Sunday, June 22 for a 2 p.m. game against the New Hope Bandits.
Hanska 5, Springfield 4
HANSKA - Hanska scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a walk-off 5-4 victory against Springfield in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball on Sunday.
Gary Wilfahrt, Jr. got the win for Hanska, while Jason Nachreiner got the loss for Springfield.
Essig 2, Lamberton 1
LAMBERTON - Essig defeated Lamberton 2-1 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Sam Hansen got the win for the Bluejays. He went the distance and allowed one earned run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
An RBI suicide squeeze by Jory Dove in the eighth inning put Essig ahead 2-1. Dusty Fleck also had an RBI double in the eighth inning in going 1-for-3.
Shane Schoberg got the loss in the pitcher's duel for Lamberton. He gave up two earned runs on eight hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in going the distance.
Holden Salfer went 3-for-4 with one run, while Derrick Jenniges had a suicide squeeze for an RBI in the seventh inninng.
