Donald Sell

Donald Sell, age 89, of Fairfax, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax with Reverend Roger Melquist officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely Township, Nicollet County, MN.

Visitation will be Friday, May 23, from 4-8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials preferred to the Fairfax Public Library, United Methodist Church or the donor's choice

Donald Keith Sell was born on October 31, 1924, in Fairfax, MN. He was the son of Reuben and Caroline (Reinke) Sell. Donald was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at the Methodist Church in Fairfax, where he remained a member until his death. He graduated from the Fairfax High School with the class of 1942, and the University of Minnesota in Business Administration.

On October 31, 1989, Donald was united in marriage to Darlene Forsberg Hahn. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fairfax.

Donald was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax and served on the Finance Committee, was an usher and greeter.

Donald was a former President and Director of Citizens State Bank of Fairfax for 40 years, the President and board member of the Fairfax Community Nursing Home, board member and President of Fort Ridgely Cemetery Association, and helped organize the Verna and Ben Carson Scholarship Fund for GFW School. He was also a member of the Fairfax Development Corp., Fairfax Lions Club and the Fairfax Depot Museum. He was a retired member of the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Squad, and served as Secretary.

Donald enjoyed all types of sports, especially baseball when he played for Fairfax. He was a Boy Scout Master, Meals on Wheels and appraiser for real estate. Donald served in Guardianships and as Personal Representative.

Donald is survived by his wife, Darlene Sell of Fairfax, MN; sons, Jeffrey A. Sell of St. Cloud, MN, and daughters Carrie and Sara and step-daughter, Rachel (Sell) Matthies; Patrick Sell of Rockville, MN, and John Sell; Darlene's children, Jody (Greg) Peeters of West Bend, UT, and her children, Matthew, Megan and Michael; Randy (Tiffany) Hahn of Anchorage, AK, and their children, Abigail and Payton; Carla (Mark) Hirsch of Tarzana, CA, and their children, Hannah and Emma; mother of Donald's sons, Violet Loverude Sell; other relatives and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Caroline Sell.
