NEW ULM The District 88 Board of Education on Thursday increased lunch prices and approved a fee schedule for 2014-15.
The recommended lunch price increase is 10 cents. Lunch prices beginning in 2014-15 school year would cost $2.30 at the elementary level and $2.45 at the high school. Adult lunch would be $3.50. Breakfast will be served free to all students.
Superintendent Jeff Bertrang explained that the increase is in line with a federal requirement about what districts in the federal lunch program need to charge. The prices must be raised incrementally for at least another year, to meet the guideline.
In some other changes, activity passes for K-12 students will decrease from $50 to $25. Activity passes for adults (not available now) will cost $75. Family passes (now $250) will be discontinued. Senior passes will remain unchanged at $50.
The net impact is a small decrease for families, based on the cost of a family pass, noted Bertrang.
Rental fees for percussion instruments will change from $30 to respectively $50 (high school) and $40 (Washington School) and for brass/woodwinds from $60 to respectively $100 (high school) and $80 (Washington School).
These fees have not been changed in recent memory, said Bertrang.
Most other fees would remain unchanged.
In a new development, all district fees (including activities, lunches and instrument rentals) will be listed in a single schedule, to make it more convenient for parents.
The board also approved a new contract for next year with Activities Director Chad Eischens. His salary was set at $53,187.61, a 1 percent increase from this year. The contract is for 220 days.
The board also approved various staffing adjustments (increases and decreases in contracts, resignations and new hires), as typical for this time of year.
The board approved a calendar for its meetings next year. It will hold a study session every second Thursday of the month, at 5 p.m., and a regular meeting every fourth Thursday, at 7 p.m. The study sessions will not be televised, and the regular meetings will be televised.
In November and December, the meetings will switch to every first and every third Thursday, because of holidays.
