NEW ULM - New Ulm Cathedral's Lindsay Simon and Anna Mohr hit softballs that said goodbye to the playing field and the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Mustangs on Tuesday night.
Their three-run homers lifted the Greyhounds to a 10-5 victory, ending the Mustangs' season with a 4-12 record and setting up a game against Cleveland at 5 p.m. Thursday night at Harman Park in the second round of the Section 2A playoffs.
But it was an uncharacteristically sloppy game by the Greyhounds, who committed four errors that contributed to four of the Mustangs' runs.

"It wasn't pretty," Cathedral coach Bob Mertz said. "But give the Mustangs a lot of credit for that. We just weren't sharp. We'll play better on Thursday."
In order to even play Cathedral, BLHS had to beat Mayer Lutheran earlier in the day, winning that game 6-1.
It was an error on Abby Hauser's grounder with two outs that gave Cathedral its first runner in the first inning. Karlee Pfaff followed with a walk, then Simon hit what she described as a "higher outside" pitch she pulled over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead.
The Mustangs cut that lead to 3-1 in the third when Erika Zanoth doubled home Becca Ebbers, who had singled to left. The Greyhounds responded with an RBI single from Anne Schwarz after a double by Hauser.
BLHS scored its second run after a single by Courtney Richards was followed by an error that allowed Kalley Wulkan to reach and a base hit by Alexis Lee that scored Richards.
After adding a run in the fourth to make it 5-2, the Greyhounds put the game out of reach in the fifth.
Mohr hit her first-career home run after a single by Simon and an error on Schwarz's grounder that opened the margin to 8-2. Jenessa Rothmeier took first on an error, Morgan Schabert beat out a grounder for an infield hit and both came home on a MacKinnon Ehlenz single to make it 10-2.
After loading the bases in the sixth, the Mustangs' Josie Peters hit a ball to the right side that resulted in two Cathedral errors, two plays at the plate with the runners sliding under the tag and three runs for BLHS to end the scoring and allow Cathedral to move on in the playoffs.
Anna Mohr was the winning pitcher, tossing five innings while giving up five hits, walking one and striking out five. Katie Kalenberg took the loss for the Mustangs, giving up 10 hits while walking three and stiking out three. Simon, Mohr and Hauser all had three RBIs for the Greyhounds.
