DeLores E. “Sistie” Smith

SAINT JAMES - DeLores E. "Sistie" Smith , age 81, of Saint James, MN died on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center, St. James.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 to 7 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, St. James and will continue on Monday from 10 until 11 am at the church.

Service will be held at the First Lutheran Church, St. James, on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11:00 am.

The clergy will be Rev. K. Christian Johnson.

Interment will be at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, in Minneapolis, MN.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.

DeLores E. "Sistie" was born on May 5, 1932 in Springfield, MN to Arthur & Esther (Waterman) Steinberg. She lived in Sanborn, her father was a butter maker by trade. She attended parochial school through 8th grade at Zion Lutheran School. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. In 9th grade Sistie and her family moved to St. James. She attended and graduated from St. James High School in 1950. She attended Johnson Beauty School in Mankato and worked for five years as a beautician in St. James. She married Arden Smith on November 8, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Sistie also worked at the Hickory for nine years, St. James Hospital for four years and Colliers for 14 years, retiring in 1994. Arden and Sistie farmed in the St. James area for about 30 years, moving to town in 1977. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Legion Auxiliary in Lewisville and a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary in St. James. Sistie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, camping, playing cribbage, baking and reading.

She is survived by her sons, Gene Smith & special friend Adeline Yates of Madelia, Jon Smith of St. James, daughters, Jayne (Jim) Hulke of New Ulm, Jill (Brad) Lunz, Jennifer (Roger) Elness, Jackie Smith & special friend Dean Karau all of St. James, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister, Audrae (Carl) Goodballet of Salem, OH, half sisters, Marsha (Dan) Haas of Des Moines, IA, Brenda Warner and Rhonda Kleven, both of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arden in 2002 and daughter-in-law, Lois Smith in 1990, twin brother, "Buzz" & wife Jan Steinberg in 2012.
