MAPLETON - The Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral and Sleepy Eye Unified track and field teams competed at the Maple River Invite on Tuesday.
Blue Earth Area won the boy's meet with a score of 114. Maple River (90), New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (85.5), MVL/New Ulm Cathedral (84), United South Central/Alden-Conger (80), Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet (68), Madelia/Truman (24.5) and Sleepy Eye Unified (12) also competed.
For the Chargers, the 4x400 relay team of Bryan Kokesch, Silas Dose, Kyle Buch and Seth Wiechman took first in 3:45.02, the team's best time of the year. The 4x100 relay team of Josh Wong, Seth Kroells, Sam Wiechman and Lukas Bordwardt also had a season-best time, finishing first in 46.55.
Seth Wiechman was second in the 400-meter dash in 54.01 and Kokesch was third in the 1,600-meter run in 5:00.12. Borgwardt was third in the triple jump (37-feet-11) and Sam Wiechman was third in the high jump (5-8).
The 4x800 relay team of Seth Wiechman, Brandon Steffl, Buch and Alex Bumgarner was third in 9:11.27 and Sam Wiechman was third in the 300-meter hurdles (44.14). Steffl took third in the 3,200-meter run (10:56.95). Sam Wiechman was fourth in the 110-hurdles (18.23, personal record) and Borgwardt was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.64) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.83).
On the girl's side, BEA won with a team score of 119. Maple River (88), SEU (78), USC/AC (69.5), LCWM/Nicollet (66), M/T (63), NRHEG (41.5) and MVL/NUC (33) all followed.
Maggie Ruah was third in the long jump (14-9) and fourth in the 200-dash (28.17) and Kate Carlson was third in the shot put (29-7 1/2). Talia Otto was fourth in the 1,600 (6:00.25) and Kira Fosburgh was fourth in the high jump (4-10).

MAPLETON - The Sleepy Eye Unified girl's track and field team took third at Maple River on Tuesday.
Nikki Carr was second in the 100 (13.33) and Brianna Polesky was second in the 400 (1:06.42). Jamie Marti was second in the 200 (28.12) and triple jump (30-9 1/2). The 4x100 relay team of Carr, Sam Walter, Becca Schmitz and Marti was second in 52.47) and the same four were part of the 4x200 team that was second in 1:52.87. The SEU 4x800 relay team of Brianna Polesky, Hanna Himmelman, Hayley Neid and Kennedy Pelzel was second in 10:43.
Polesky was third in the 3,200-meter run (12:34) and Tori Anderson was third in the triple jump (30-09). Mariah Salfer was fourth in the 100-hurdles (17.51).
On the boy's side, David Jasso took first in discus with a throw of 123-05.
GFW competes at St.?Peter
ST. PETER - The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop boy's track and field team finished tied for first at the St. Peter Invite on Tuesday. GFW had nine first-place finishes.
Thomas Weikle had four first-place finishes. He won the 100-dash in 11:65, the 200-dash in 24.04 and the long jump (17-9 1/2). He also anchored the 4x100 relay team (along with Angelo Metzger, Leighton Messner, Micah Schwecke), which won in 47.71.
Dan Timm won the discus (136-10) and the shot put (43-8 1/2).
Messner was second in the 110-hurdles (16.82) and second in the 300-hurdles (43.68). He also placed fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 31-10.
Schwecke placed second in the shot with a season and personal best of 40-7 and he placed second in the discus with a throw of 117-11.
The 800-meter run went very well for GFW with Jesse Rider winning it with a time of 2:14.5. Teammates Jack Bussler placed second with a time of 2:15.5 and Alex Griswold placed third with a time of 2:18.3.
Sam Stresemann was second in the 1,600 in 5:03.2 and teammates Bussler and Alex Griswold placed third and fourth with times of 5:09 and 5:10, respectively. Stresemann also took second in the 3,200 in 11:45, while Alex Burns placed third with a time of 12:04.
Jesse Rider won the high jump with a jump (5-8) and placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 35-5 1/2. Rider also anchored the winning 400-relay team, which had a time of 3:51. Other members of that team are Angelo Metzger, Bussler, and Griswold.
Noah Steiner finished fourth in the 200 in 26.7 and he also placed fourth in the shot and discus with throws of 37-5 and 93-1.
Metzger was second in the 400 (57.6) and second in the long jump (17-8). The 4x200 relay team placed second with a time of 1:47. Members of that team are Mitchell Schroeder, Noah Steiner, Cory Becker, and Micah Schwecke. The 4x800 relay team (Jose Barrientos, Jacob Bohl, Will Pioske, and Jordan Halstead) placed third in 10:22.
The GFW girls finished second with 82 points. St. Peter finished first with 135 points, while Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity finished third with 25.
The 400 team took first in 4:39. Members of that team are Halley Busse, Jenn Palmer, Megan Palmer, and Steph Palmer.
Jenn Palmer won the 1,600 in 5:58, while teammate Annie Pomplun placed fourth (6:30).
Halley Busse won the 400-dash in 1:06, while Anna Buboltz placed fourth with a time of 1:14.
Carly Thompson won the 100-dash in 14.76 and Anna Buboltz also was fourth in 15.07.
Danielle Nelson won the 3,200 in 14:10 and teammate Erika Tanaka was third in 15:23. Lexi Jensen took second in the discus (89-11).
Ashley Schmidt was fourth in discus (88-6) and Megan Palmer was second in the 200 in 29.3. Teammate Jenifer Woods placed third in 30.1. Mary Dustin was third in the 100-hurdles (21.4). Sierra Schmidt placed fourth in the long jump with a season best 13-6 while Tanaka was fourth in the 800 (2:46).
The 4x100 relay placed second with a time of 58.3. Members of that team are Miah Busse, Sierra Schmidt, Ashley Schmidt, and Jenifer Woods.
GFW's 4x200 relay also placed second with a time of 1:57. Members of that team are Busse, Megan Palmer, Steph Palmer and Woods.
The 4x800 relay of Zoe Rickheim, Abigail Fortman, Annie Pomplun and Jamie Brown also placed second in 11:55.
