NEW ULM - It's been a long time since the New Ulm boy's tennis team has defeated Waseca.
On Thursday, that winless drought reached 45 Waseca reigned supreme again with a 6-1 South Central Conference victory.
Josh Koelpin earned New Ulm's lone win on the day. He defeated Ryan Van Ende 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
"He's been good," New Ulm coach Peter Engeldinger said of the junior. "He got off to a bit of a slow start but he picked it up later. It's tough at one and two singles because you're going to run into some tough opponents."
The Eagles had to juggle their line-up a bit because some of their players were gone for the Easter break. However, the Bluejays dominated at each match so it didn't seem to matter much.
At first singles, Calvin Collum Jr. lost 6-0, 6-2 to Waseca's John Lewer. Waseca's Ben Johnson made quick work of New Ulm's Tim Haag in a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
At fourth singles, New Ulm's Joel Koelpin lost 7-5, 6-4.
New Ulm was swept in doubles action. Noah Stocker and Neil Lindquist lost 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles and Earl Foster and Kelby Stocker lost 6-1, 6-3 at second doubles.
Taylor Tambornino and Josh Goodall fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles dropped to 1-4 on the season with the loss. They host Redwood Valley at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
