John B. Quiring, age 92, of Lake Crystal, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lake Crystal with Father Tim Biren officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Holy Family Cemetery, Lake Crystal.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Saturday.
John was born on May 24, 1921 to Bernhard and Hattie (Klassan) Quiring in Mountain Lake, MN. He attended District 69 Country School.
John served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in North Africa and Europe as a Private First Class in the Reconnaissance Company Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Lake Crystal American Legion.
John was united in marriage to Rosemary G. Berg on February 17, 1947 in St. James. John was employed for 32 years as a car inspector for the railroad, retiring on June 1, 1981. John took great pride in his house and yard. He enjoyed gardening, remodeling homes, coin collecting, and especially spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary of Lake Crystal. John and Rosemary have eight children: David Quiring of Lake Crystal, Kathy (Ray) Helder of Lake Crystal, Judith Gerdes of New Ulm, Patricia (Jim) Bathke of Wells, Mary (Dan) Gilman of Lake Crystal, Michael (Michelle) Quiring of Two Harbors, Nancy (Dan) Braam of New Ulm, and Angela (Jim) Grant of Chatfield. They enjoy 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
John was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
