COLOGNE - The Martin Luther College baseball team swept a Upper Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against Crown Tuesday by the scores of 10-4 and 10-0.
The Knights jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before coasting to the 10-4 game one win.
MLC jumped on the Storm early, with the first seven batters in the bottom of the first inning scoring.
That would be more than enough for the Knights, as Jake Ziel started the game and went the first five innings to earn the win and improve to 3-1. Ziel struck out 11 and allowed four hits and two unearned runs before giving way to relievers Travis Kretsch and Michael Schlottman.
Tom Welch, Joel Hering and Joe Schmudlach each finished with a pair of hits and combined to drive in seven runs in the win.
The Knights finished the sweep with a 10-0 win in seven innings in game two.
Matt Olson started the game for the Knights and earned his first win of the season at 1-2. Olson was dominant in his six innings of work, striking out nine and allowing only two hits.
MLC scored three runs in the first, and then took advantage of home runs by Galen Holzhueter and Aaron Stokke in the second and sixth innings to help put the Storm away. The home runs were the first of the season for both Holzhueter and Stokke.
Holzhueter finished the day with three hits, and also scored a pair of runs and drove in two.
With the sweep, MLC improved to 6-7 on the season and 3-2 in the UMAC.
The Knights are scheduled to return to action at 1 p.m. Wednesday against North Central.
